Mixed Media
(Available from August 2005)
Course summary
This course is designed to develop personal creativity through the exploration of mixed media and materials, and culminates in three projects; a colour study in any medium or mixture of media, a black and white study and a piece developed from sketches and studies.
Students will learn to utilise line, tone, colour, texture and pattern using papers, inks, paints and dyes, through both conventional and unconventional approaches. They will create surfaces through mark making, dying, and monoprinting and learn to manipulate these surfaces to create unique and imaginative work.
The course allows students to explore the formal elements of visual art and to develop their own personal creativity; at the same time gaining skills in a wide range of drawing and mixed media techniques. They will also learn how to apply basic design ideas and are encouraged to use a wide variety of mediums, materials and techniques in order to do this.
The course culminates in the production of three finished pieces; these pieces allow the student the opportunity to produce finished work which is of varying scale and media.
