You don’t need any previous experience - the course is aimed at students who wish to provide quality grooming for their own dogs, as well as those who are thinking of setting up their own grooming business.
All you need is a love of dogs, patience and a mature outlook! However, as the course requires a great deal of time, effort and attention to detail, it is not suitable for anyone with back problems or repetitive motion injuries.
What will I learn on the course? The Dog Grooming Diploma course gives you the opportunity to learn in detail about all aspects of grooming dogs. The course includes the history of humankind’s relationship with dogs, in-depth details of the grooming process, as well as helpful advice on how to set up and run your own dog grooming business. But I work during the day
Not a problem, you don’t have to give up your job. You can study in your spare time at home.
How long do I have to complete the course? This is a home study course so all lessons are undertaken in your own time over a period of roughly 6-12 months. What’s more, if we update the course, we will either post details on our website or send them to you free of charge.
Is there a final exam at the end of the course? No. However, there are a series of tasks and assignments throughout the course that must be completed.
What qualifications will I gain through the course?
Level 3 Award in Dog Grooming plus a UK Open Learning Diploma.
At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 3 NCFE Award certificate of achievement. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland”

Do you include work tools with the course?
No, this is a theory-based course. If you plan to start your own business you will need to buy the relevant equipment.
How can I set up my own dog grooming business after taking the course? The course features lots of information about how to set up in business working for yourself. Don’t worry, it’s not as daunting as it sounds!
I already have a job
Great! But you can’t beat working for yourself. Just think: nobody to tell you what to do - you’re completely your own boss! You don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself, you can choose the hours you work, no commuting to work… once you’ve started you’ll never look back!
But there’s a recession on!
There is always a market for dog grooming, even in a recession. Dog owners are always going to want to keep their pets well groomed and looked after.
Do you offer any ‘hands-on’ dog grooming training?
GROOMING COURSES 2009 (Based in Cheshire)
Option 1
2 day course on which you would learn the following:
• Basic dog handling
• Bathing
• Drying
• Brushing, combing & de-matting
• Ear cleaning
• Eye cleaning
• Anal gland cleaning
• Nail trimming
• Introduction to grooming products
Course cost - £120.00
Option 2
5 day course on which you would learn all of the above (from 2 day course) plus the following:
• Basic pet trim (Specified to your breed of dog)
• Scissor finishing
• Clipping
Course cost - £250.00
Option 3 Dog Spa Professional Training course.
The course consists of both theory and practical experience you will not be expected to write essays or take exams, you will however be constantly assessed through the training process and at the end of the course you will be issued with a Dog Spa certificate of completion. The certificate will only be issued if your grooming and knowledge of dog handling is to a good standard.
The course is taken over a period of 30 days and is flexible as I am aware people will probably train around their full time/part time work. I do advise that at the start of the course it would be beneficial to you to attend 3 days in a row to get you started but if this not possible then that is ok.

The 30 day course cost is £1600 and can be paid in instalments as long as the course is paid in full before the course commences.
The introductory 2 day experience course costing £120 is a good way of assessing if you are making the correct career choice, if the 2 day course is then taken further into the 5 day course or the 30 day professional program the payment for the 2/5 day course will be deducted from the 30 day course.
